"Jimbo
Mathus is a link in what I call the 'crazy Mississippi white-boy'
chain of music that goes all the way back through Elvis Presley
to Jimmie Rogers…white musicians playing black music and influencing
people in both cultures."
-Luther
Dickinson, North Mississippi All-Stars
Guitarist,
songwriter, vocalist and producer Jimbo Mathus grew up in Clarksdale,
Mississippi. He first caught the public's ear in the 1990's with
the hyper-ragtime vaudeville act, The Squirrel Nut Zippers. Since
then, he's released many recordings of his own in a style he describes
as "Mississippi Music". His background includes guitar slinging
on Grammy winning Buddy Guy's Blues Singer and engineering/producing
credit for Elvis Costello's Grammy nominated Monkey to Man single.
Recorded in Clarksdale, MS, Old Scool Hot Wings, is the newest offering
by Mathus. The album features performances by fellow north Mississippians,
Luther and Cody Dickinson, Steve Selvidge, T. Bryan Ledford, Paul
Taylor, Justin Showah, Olga, Lightnin' Malcolm, and the Bear, among
others. Old Scool Hot Wings is a light-hearted country blues jugband
record sure to please both young and old scool. Dig in!

""John
Lisi & Delta Funk snorts and stomps like an unholy cross between
the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Led Zeppelin... the future of New
Orleans music."
-Offbeat
Magazine, New Orleans
New
Orleans' own John Lisi sojourns up the Mississippi to team up Jimbo
Mathus (Squirrel Nut Zippers) and Cody Dickinson (North Mississippi
Allstars) to funk up a fresh batch of tunes on the new album Dead
Cat Bounce. Recorded at the Money Shot in Water Valley, MS and produced
by Jimbo Mathus, Lisi's fourth album Dead Cat Bounce flips the blues
script, mixing modern punk funk with traditional pickin' on all
original tunes penned by John himself. John Lisi has been bringing
it up in New Orleans, learning and playing with Rockin' Tabby Thomas,
Big Chief Monk Boudreaux and Big Joe Turner, gigging with Galactic
and Shemeika Copeland - all the while creating and honing his own
sound. He has been a Jazzfest staple performer of the last 4 years,
also garnering a " Best New Blues" nomination for the Offbeat Awards
in 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002. John Lisi and Delta Funk average
200 shows a year nationwide, so they'll be sure to stomp in your
town soon!

"I
was taken aback with the beauty of her voice. Drury's powerful,
Mississippi-honed voice has a sort of soulful, burnished twang (similar
to Lucinda Williams) tempered with that same southern sweet sincerity
that makes Norah Jones so appealing. One of the strongest performances
I've heard all summer."
-Michael
Dominici, Offbeat Magazine
New
Orleans-based singer songwriter Lynn Drury's powerful wail and sultry
vocals have been compared to Rickie Lee Jones, Lucinda Williams,
Norah Jones, and Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star)- but this Mississippi
girl has a fire all her own, burning through tales of happenstance
and heartbreak with sharp-witted humor. Funky sounds of New Orleans
blend with the countrified roots of Lynn's rural upbringing. Vivid
imagery draws you into a refreshingly honest world, where a spade
is called a spade and old folks' common sense prevails over jaded
cynicism- but not without a fight! Tracked at Delta Recording Service
(site of Elvis Costello's grammy-nominated "Monkey to Man" recording)
and co-produced by Jimbo Mathus, All You Need lays down solid grooves
and ambient textures as the backdrop to a performer that'll invite
you in for a listen and will keep you there all night.

Karl Denson's Tiny Universe
Produced
by Olga and Jimbo Mathus. Recorded at Delta Recording Service, Clarksdale,
Mississippi, Olga's third album, Now is the Time, features performances

and blues players. The album includes Jimbo Mathus, Paul Taylor,
Jack Yarber, Steve Malcolm, T. Bryan Ledford, Max Williams, Darren
Dortin, Will Dawson, Brandon Hughes, and Justin Showah.
"…the
simplicity and immediacy of Olga's music, expressing herself with
passion and humbleness…displays an artist that has developed her
own way to move and captivate us with her bittersweet blues." -Matteo

Singer,
songwriter, great guitarist, and extraordinary storyteller, Davis
Coen manages to blow away the fog and tell it like it is. Folk,
blues and country blend for a sound that is the real deal.
-
Bill Wilson, Billtown Blues
Ill
Disposition- the latest from Blues circuit guitarist/singer Davis
Coen- was recorded at Nightsound Studio in Carborro, North Carolina.
Coen seamlessly shifts from traditional, acoustic based country
folk-blues to electric driven original blues compositions, with
a healthy dose of pure old-timey rock n' roll thrown in for good
measure. The project is marked by grooving classics- Freight Train,
Kansas City, and Yes We Can Can- mixed in with new compositions
like Busker's Blues, Something at My Feet, and the country-flared
Good Conversation. Coen has shared a bill or opened for classic
blues artists James Cotton, Junior Wells, Koko Taylor, Big Jack
Johnson, North Mississippi All-Stars, David "Honeyboy" Edwards,
Eddie Kirkland, and Britain`s John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers.

They
call it "Texasippi Blues" and it's just what it's billed - a little
bit of Texas - a little bit of the Mississippi Delta. It's a perfect
menu for folks starvin' for real music...something far, far away
from the slick, made-up, perfectly coiffed stuff served on radio
and T.V. these days...it's jumpin'. It's downhome and gritty. It's
lazy. It's foot stompin' on a Saturday night. It's barbecue at a
blues festival. It's easily all of that in one sitting.
-
Lyndia T. Day, Texas Writer's League
Texas
natives Ray Cashman (guitar, vocals, boot-box, high hat) and Grant
"Gabby" Brown (harmonica) make up the gritty blues duo, CASHMAN.
This marks the release of the second definitively titled cd, TEXASSIPPI
STOMP, where Texas meets the Mississippi hill country after swaggering
through the Delta on their way to a juke-joint party. Recorded at
the legendary Money Shot studio in Oxford, MS, and produced by boogie
blues master, Jimbo Mathus (Squirrel Nut Zippers, Buddy Guy), TEXASSIPPI
STOMP features all original music by the band. They were nominated
for Best Blues Band in the 2005 Austin Music Awards and tour relentlessly
throughout the US spreading their foot-stomping Saturday night "Texassippi"
sound.
