He first caught the public's ear in the 1990's with the hyper-ragtime vaudeville act, The Squirrel Nut Zippers. Since then, he's released many recordings of his own in a style he describes as "Mississippi Music". His background includes guitar slinging on Grammy winning Buddy Guy's Blues Singer and engineering/producing credit for Elvis Costello's Grammy nominated Monkey to Man single. Recorded in Clarksdale, MS, Old Scool Hot Wings, is the newest offering by Mathus. The album features performances by fellow north Mississippians, Luther and Cody Dickinson, Steve Selvidge, T. Bryan Ledford, Paul Taylor, Justin Showah, Olga, Lightnin' Malcolm, and the Bear, among others.
